{Interview with Stella & Dot Independent Stylist, Lisa Julnes}

We had a chance to interview Lisa about her Stella & Dot business and what inspired her to become an entrepreneur.  Here are some of her thoughts:

Q:  What inspired you to become a Stella & Dot Independent Stylist?

A:  I had known about the line for quite some time and loved it!  Of course, I had quite a long wish list, so I decided to host a trunk show through a friend of mine who was a Stella & Dot Independent Stylist.  After the party was over, I asked her how much she made in commission.  Her response was “probably $250”!  Needless to say, after hearing that, coupled with the fact that she had trays and trays of jewelry that she had earned for free, I decided immediately that Stella & Dot was something I wanted to pursue!

After having my daughter a year previous to hosting my first trunk show, I knew that I wanted to be a stay-at-home mom, and this job has truly enabled me to continue to be at home with my daughter while still contributing to the family finances in a big way.  In addition, I have earned thousands of dollars in free jewelry, which means I don’t ever feel the need to purchase any jewelry for myself.  The cherry on top is that my job consists of meeting fabulous women, brightening their lives with new Stella & Dot bling and helping my hostesses spend their hundreds of dollars earned in free jewels.  How great is that?!

Q:  Name three of your staple wardrobe pieces and describe why Stella & Dot would be a great addition to those particular pieces.

A:  Being a mom who's always on the run, my go-to outfit has to be skinny jeans paired with a t-shirt or sweater and ankle boots. One of the things I love about Stella & Dot is that each piece can be dressed up or down, which means that even on my most casual days, I still have a Stella & Dot piece that works with my outfit! I have found that since I became a Stella & Dot Stylist, it’s incredibly easy to have a fairly neutral wardrobe and just add a few great accessories to compliment your look.

Q:  We can't get enough of Stella & Dot's Spring/Summer 2014 line - it's so soft and delicate with a pop of colour! What are your top three picks from the new Spring 2014 line?

A:  It’s very difficult for me to choose because I love it all! If I absolutely have to narrow it down to my top three pieces, these are my choices:

  1. Sutton Necklace:  Layering is made simple and stunning with this amazing necklace! The Sutton is a versatile necklace that can be worn five different ways and will transform any outfit, and Stella & Dot carries three different versions of this necklace!  We have a white stone Sutton featuring strands of ivory colored beads and white semi-precious stones with gold beads.  We also have another stone Sutton featuring strands of green, periwinkle and semi-precious blue stones, with vintage gold plating.  Lastly, we have our mixed metal Sutton made of a silver and gold mix, together with a custom triangle sparkle strand.
  2. Citrine Clutch:  Inspired by our laser-cut Avalon jewelry, the perforated design of this clutch makes a gorgeous sidekick for make-up essentials, cards, cash and your phone.  It features double zip pockets and an inside mirror, and comes in two colours:  Citrine and Geranium.  I own the Citrine and use it every single day!
  3. Daphne Pearl Necklace:  According to Jackie O, pearls are always appropriate and I would have to agree. I wear this necklace at least twice a week with anything from a t-shirt to a silky dress. Two layers of multi-sized glass pearls with vintage gold chains puts a fresh spin on the classic pearl necklace.

Q:  Picture this: you're wearing a LBD for a night out on the town.  Tell us which Stella & Dot pieces you would use to accessorize it!

A:  I would choose the gold Pegasus necklace, which is our most popular statement piece. It’s a gorgeous bib of feathers with gold plating hand sewn to silk organza cascade.  I would also add our Bardot spiral bangle in gold and Cleopatra studs to complete the look.
