snooping or just concerned?

Last night I posted on my Facebook page that I was trying my hardest to be supermom {I must have been delusional} while my hubby slept on the couch.  I swear sometimes I think he's pregnant and not me.

I decided to whip up a dinner consisting of scalloped potatoes, seasoned chicken breasts and asparagus - all of which took approximately two hours to prepare and cook.  I also did a load of laundry at my mother-in-law's next door {our dryer is broken} and entertained and fed Lil J.

In those two hours, Miss S was in her room "doing her homework".  I've expressed her struggles with homework and concentration patterns before and this time was no exception.  In two hours, she had completed one sheet of her Kumon homework and nothing else.  Apparently, she was "counting money" for the last hour and a half.  Bullsh*t.  Little does she know, I'll be calling her bluff and testing her on that theory tonight.  If she was telling the truth, she should be a professional money counter.

Alas, she didn't end up finishing her actual schoolwork and she continued to work on it this morning but I highly doubt it was completed.  I'm losing faith.

On another note, I was suspecting that perhaps she was on her phone for those two hours.  I checked her messages and saw that she has been texting this boy that she's had a crush on for a while.  She had told us last week that he had asked for her number but when I see this boy calling her "sweet cheeks" and "babycakes", I was half surprised and half not.  After all I had my first "boyfriend" in grade 6 {the same grade Miss S is in now}.  That lasted all of about a week until he told his friends that I was too boring.  Sorry but "going out" in grade 6 just means having the title of boyfriend and girlfriend - not actually doing anything.  Have times changed?

I felt kind of bad going through her phone but I'm glad I'm in the loop now.  It's also made me realize that I need to take the two seconds out of my day to talk to Miss S personally.  You know...girl talk.  I've been so busy lately that I have been neglecting our talks.

What do you think?  Would you go through your kid(s) phone?  Is it snooping or is it just something a concerned parent would do?

  1. It's called being a concerned parent! Do not doubt yourself. Too many parents regret not doing what you did.
