post-partum body issues

Ever since giving birth to Baby Z two months ago, I've felt tremendous pressure to slim down to my pre-pregnancy weight.  I'm not sure why because I've never "watched" my weight before.  To me, it's the strangest feeling!  For some reason I feel like I should already fit into my pre-pregnancy jeans!!  I know - call me crazy.

After I had Lil J, I didn't feel any pressure to slim down to my pre-pregnancy weight.  Before I knew it, I could fit into my pre-pregnancy jeans {I'm thinking this was 5 or 6 months post-partum} and I was dropping weight faster than I actually wanted to {the joys of breastfeeding!}.  I also didn't step onto a scale until months after he was born.  That could have been my mistake this time around - I've already weighed myself twice in two weeks  at my mom's house and the scale didn't falter.  That was depressing to me.

In all fairness, I haven't been able to exercise yet in fear of rupturing my incision from my c-section surgery.  I know that the odds of anything like that happening exactly 10 weeks after my surgery, or anytime at all, is very low.  Maybe I'm just making excuses not to get my butt on the treadmill!

So basically I'm feeling extremely self-conscious about my body post-baby and I'm crossing my fingers that I can get into pre-baby shape pronto!

When were you able to fit into your pre-pregnancy jeans?  Did you feel pressure to lose weight fast?  Was the pressure different after your second or third child?

  1. This is what I think: give yourself a break. You grew a baby and gave birth and your body deserves a break. Your mind deserves to be free of feeling negative about what you look like during this short babyhood.

I totally totally get the whole post partum body drama because I feel it too. I gained more weight this last pregnancy than my first and so there was more to lose overall.

Go for more walks with your baby that get your heart rate up. Pick healthy choices and drink lots of water. Enjoy your little baby girl and give yourself the chance to just 'be' for right now.

    1. Thanks for the advice Mama! I knew I could count on you :) It feels so different this time around and I hope it's just the hormones raging.

  2. I remember being shocked that I still had a belly after my first was born. I thought it just magically disappeared. I can't even remember when I fit back into my jeans again. Sooner than was probably healthy since I was so tired and went back to work after 2 months and forgot to eat a lot. This time around I am chasing after a toddler. Still a bit of a belly left. Like you I never thought I had weight image issues, that is until I got pregnant. But after my first I know the weight will go away, I will slim back down to my normal, if not better, size.
And 10 weeks is nothing. Someone once told me...it took 9 months to make that baby, figure at least 9 months to go back down to your normal size. Just know you are not alone. We all have our moments of stress when it comes to our bodies. LIke we needed something else what with the lack of sleep and hormones raging once again.
Enjoy your baby girl. and give yourself a hug lady. And maybe a little treat to celebrate you.

  3. 2 months ago! Girl, don't worry about it. Seriously. If you still think you need to at 6 months then start with something easy like a nice walk.
At this stage, don't pressure yourself at all. Just wear something different, and enjoy your little baby. And save the extra minutes in the day to rest.

I didn't have to worry about it. I have 2 babies now and after both of them breastfeeding just took any extra weight away. Although my hips certainly moved. :)
