The latest recall in which Fisher Price has recalled over 10 million units of various items has got me wondering: Us moms have spent endless hours researching hundreds of different products for the safety of our children and all for what?
I swear - about 40% of the toys, gadgets or major safety devices that I have purchased over the last couple years for Lil J have been recalled. Here is a list of some of the items:
I even had a plan to get Lil J a toy from Toys R Us this weekend. The Fisher Price Little People Wheelies Stand 'n Play Rampway. So glad I haven't gotten a chance to purchase it yet because this product was also included in the Fisher Price recall. Ack!!
Guess this proves that we moms (and dads!) are not immune to recalls of our favourite name brand items no matter how much research we do. Does this scare you that so many companies we instill our trust in to provide safe products for our children, in fact, fail quite frequently? Or is it just a way of life - that it could happen to anyone?
Does it depend on how one uses a product and if kids are supervised accordingly? But how can we keep our eyes on our kids 100% of the time? That feat is absolutely impossible!!
What steps do you take to ensure the safety of your child around his toys?

...into mommyhood! I blogged about my pregnancy with Lil J occasionally but I don't think I have ever talked about my experience in becoming an acting mommy (aka step-mom) to Miss S about four and a half years ago. In fact, now that I think about it, I was also very young at the time!
I met my hubby almost six years ago and instantly found out that he had a child from his previous marriage. Imagine my thoughts quickly swirling around in my head: What do I say? What should I do? Am I ready to jump into a relationship knowing the possibility of being a parental figure to this child?
In all fairness, I was only 22!! I wasn't even looking for a serious relationship. I was still in party mode - hanging out with friends, dancing at clubs and doing normal things a early twenty-something does. But there was something special about this guy. He seemed very involved with his daughter and loved her more than anything in the world. That shows a lot about a person. So I decided to take a chance.
Almost six years later, here we are! We have a beautiful son, Lil J, who is now almost 15 months old (wow, time flies!) and a gorgeous daughter, Miss S, who is 10 going on 16 (isn't that always the case?!). I am scared, sometimes terrified, about the years ahead but I know I can do it because I am one half of a team that is completely dedicated to our kids. I have to admit it is not easy and there are a lot of mixed feelings about being an acting mommy which I will comment more on in another post, but I wouldn't want anything to be different. I love that Lil J has a sibling he can look up to and that Miss S has a sibling that she loves so much.
Can't wait to see what the years ahead will bring and to witness the bond between siblings.

Picking out names for your child-to-be may be the most exciting time of your pregnancy. Or it may be the most daunting. We didn't know the sex of our baby but my hubby already had a boys name picked out that I didn't really care for and he told his family that we were naming the baby that if it was a boy. Oh really?!
We did end up having a beautiful baby boy which everyone thought was named Christian. And so, while I was still under the effects of anethesia (I had to have an emergency C-section), birth announcements were going out via text messages that our new baby boy Christian was born!
One of his aunts actually had to white-out Christian from her congratulatory card and replace it with Lil J's actual name!
It wasn't until I had slowly snapped out of the anethesia haze that my hubby asked me what I would like to name our baby. We didn't really discuss names much during my pregnancy although I did have about five girl names picked out. Girls seemed easier to name than boys.
I didn't hesitate at all when I told my hubby I wanted to name him after my brother and dad. He absolutely fell in love with the idea and didn't turn back. Not that I would have had it any other way! In the end, we ended up combining my bro and dad's name and added my hubby's middle name as baby boy's middle name. So his entire name has meaning! Can't wait to tell Lil J that when he gets older!
What did you do when you were debating between 1,000,000 names? How did you possibly narrow names down?
